‘No more road cuts’

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, Oct 5: Wasa will complete the ongoing drainage work near Tezab Mill on the Jaranwala Road within 15 days so as to ensure subsequent work on the road by the executing agency.

It was decided during a meeting held to review work on seven major roads of the city under the chairmanship of DCO Maj Iqbal Ahmad Raja (retired) on Friday.

Tehsil Naib Nazim Ilyas Ansari, EDO (revenue) Mian Kaml Din, EDO (works) Mian Riaz, DO (planning) Awais Ahmad, Wasa MD Col Ghiasuddin, Col Shafqat and Maj Gondal of NLC were also present on the occasion.

Talking to the participants, the DCO stressed the need for coordination among various departments to avoid requests for road cuts after completion of a road with heavy expenditure. He directed the PTCL, Wasa, Wapda and other departments to provide blue print of requisite details, making no delay in provisions for the executing agency.

Requests for designing cut in a completed road, it was decided, would not be entertained if not inevitable.

The DCO also directed the FWO and NLC to erect warning signals well ahead of work for the convenience of motorists. He asked the garden branch to cover the median along the newly-constructed road with green belts, giving it a picturesque look.

The meeting was informed that work on the Jhumra and Satiana roads was in final touches while work on the Jaranwala, Sargodha and the Sheikhupura roads was in advance stage. The Narwala Road will be recarpeted within stipulated time, it was revealed.

Taking stock of the situation, the DCO directed the garden branch to seek community participation for the completion of project. He urged the in charge of the branch to work on war footing to save the green belt along the Jaranwala Road from deterioration.
