Nine injured in BD explosions

DHAKA, Oct 9: At least nine ruling party members were injured in two bomb attacks in southwestern Bangladesh, police said on Sunday, ruling out Islamic hardline groups blamed for a recent series of explosions.

Seven youth wing members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party were hospitalised when a home-made bomb was hurled outside the party office in Keshobpur, additional superintendent of police Nuruzzaman Bhuiyan said.

He said nobody claimed responsibility for the attacks late on Saturday but two men were arrested in connection with the violence.

“We are investigating whether the attack was due to infighting among the youth wing members of the party,” Mr Bhuiyan said.

Two ruling party members were also seriously injured in a separate bomb attack in a remote village in Chuadanga district, police said.—AFP
