DADU, May 2: The health authorities have set up medical camps in the Andreen Taga village and adjoining areas after detection of at least 50 cases of measles. The EDO Health has cancelled leave of health officials and doctors in government-run hospitals and directed them to remain alert round the clock.
A team led by Dr Zahid Hussain Khahro, surveillance officer of WHO, Dr Qurban Bhurgari, surveillance officer of district health department and Dr Javed Ahmed Dawach, district officer preventive measures, have set up a medical camp in village Andreen Taga.
Dr Qurban Bhurgari said that 42 cases of measles have so far been reported at the camp from Qaim Chandio Village.
He said that doctors had vaccinated the patients. He said that eight children from Andreen Taga Village were administered anti-measles vaccination.
He said that 72 patients were administered anti-tetanus and TB vaccines.
The EDO Health, Dadu, said that teams were sent to Faridabad town, Wahi Pandhi, Rahuja, Sarang Chandio and Mathian Taga villages for vaccination against measles. Meanwhile, an infant, Sajid Rodnani, of Qasim Rodnani Village, Johi taluka, died due to measles on Tuesday.
PROTEST: A group of jobless graduates staged a demonstration outside press club here on Tuesday and protested against officials of the Zamzama gas plant of BHP Billiton for denial of jobs to them.
They were led by district president of the Social Welfare Action Committee, Nadeem Ahmed Ghallo and other office-bearers, Faisal Malkani, Aijaz Memon and Khalid Lashari. They said that they would continue their protests till acceptance of their demands.
PASSENGERS ROBBED: Robbers looted cash, mobile phones, gold jewellery and other valuables from 30 passengers of a Karachi-bound coach on Indus Highway near Bhan town on Tuesday.
Frustrated at the ordeal, the passengers went to Sehwan police station to register their protest, and demanded the police arrest the robbers and find their cash and other valuables.
TPO Sehwan Farrukh Bashir assured them that the police would soon arrest the robbers and persuaded them to end their protest.
