Published March 19, 2008

BANNU, March 18: Uniden-tified miscreants fired rocket at a police checkpost in Ismaelkhel, the village of former president Ghulam Ishaq, few kilometres south-east of Bannu city in the small hours on Tuesday.

Police said the rocket missed the police checkpost and hit the nearby house of Kamal Uddin, partially damaging them. However, no casualty was reported. The miscreants fled when the police retaliated with heavy fire.

Residents of the area condemned the attack and called upon the government to take stern action against the miscreants. They said that they would extend all-out cooperation to the law-enforcement agencies in their efforts to overcome the growing militancy and criminal activities in the area.
