DADU, April 2: Police used tear gas and opened fire on protesters in which eight people, a private TV channel’s cameraman, and two police officials were injured on Wednesday.

Hundreds of people belonged to Zounr tribe and PML-Q supporters had staged a protest demonstration on Dad-Larkana Indus Highway in Dadu town.

They were protesting against a police raid on a local hotel and arrests of some men.Police had arrested eight people from the hotel of PML-Q leader Ashique Hussain Zour in Dadu town in the raid.

Police officials, led by TPO city Kazi Ashfaque, SHO city Asghar Birhamani and SHO of Johi police station, Adam Abro, raided the hotel and arrested Ghulam Nabi, Noor Nabi, Asif, mehboob and Hamid Al Zour.

After the arrests hundreds of people of Zour tribe arrived in the city from near by villages and blocked the main Indus Highway of Dadu-Larkana and Dadu-Sehwan roads. They were demanding release of the arrested men.

Heavy contingent of police arrived there and used teargas and bullets to quell the protest.

Protestors were armed with clubs and pelted vehicles with stones and smashed the glasses of TPO city’s mobile van and other vehicles.

Eight people and KTN’s cameraman Deedar Hussain Shaikh were injured due to shelling and firing. ASI Nissar Ahmed and ASI Ashraf Bhatti also received injuries in the clash with protesters.

The people were still protesting when this report was filed.

Police have cordoned off the area and roads are still blocked.

Talking to Dawn TPO city Kazi Ashfaque said that police had arrested the Zour tribesmen in a case registered against them at Jhallo police station for a clash.
