PESHAWAR, April 4: Four CD shops were blown up in different areas in Badbher early Friday morning.
Police said it seemed that an organised group of many persons was involved in the blasts because they occurred simultaneously at 1.40am. The shops were owned by Adalat Khan, Raja, Muqeem and Bakht Rehman.
A case was registered against unknown people.
CAR LIFTERS HELD: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested two alleged car lifters and recovered master keys, a police card and parts of cars from them.
Speaking at a press conference at his office, SSP (investigation) Ghulam Mohammad Khan said Zulfiqar of Aman Garh, Nowshera, was arrested at Qissakhwani red-handed while trying to lift a car.
He said the accused impersonated as assistant sub-inspector and possessed a fake police card, a wireless set and master keys of various kinds of cars.
Gul Zaman, reportedly a schoolteacher, was arrested from a rented bungalow at Shaikh Maltoon Town in Mardan.
He is said to be the ringleader of an inter-provincial car-lifters’ gang. He had earlier been arrested by the Punjab police in car lifting cases, but had been released on bail from the Adiala jail.
The SSP said the accused had confessed their involvement in lifting of 15 cars only from Peshawar and had sold the cars after changing their chassis and engine numbers.
Police also recovered spare parts of various cars, tape recorders, arms licence, registration of cars, fake documents and Rs450,000 in cash.
The SSP said two Afghan nationals, Jamal and Latif, were also members of the gang, who were still at large.
Earlier, at another press conference, SP (cantonment) Imran Shahid said the accused involved in looting a photojournalist had been arrested and cash, motorcycle and a cellphone recovered from them.
Photojournalist Ihsanullah said he was going home at 11pm on April 1 when three people had robbed him of his motorcycle and Rs2,770 in cash at gunpoint.
The SP said two arrested accused, Altaf and Wali, had confessed that they were members of a group involved in street crimes. Jamil and his brother Yar Akbar of Pawki were the group’s ringleaders.
Meanwhile, police on Friday arrested eight people reportedly fleecing patients who come to the city form remote areas for medical checkup from specialist doctors at Dabgari.
Police said most of the accused were involved in dodging innocent people who came for checkup from specialist doctors but were taken to clinics of simple MBBS doctors.
They said the agents got commissions both from doctors and laboratories.
Those arrested were: Suhal Ahmed of Shabqadar, Irfanullah of Ahmedabad, Mohammad Younus of Dabgari, Mohammad Riaz of Wahid Garhi, Niazullah of Shabqadar, Irfan Shah of Kakshal, Ejaz Khan of Bakhshi Pul and Khalid of Kakshal.
Police said the drive had been launched on public complaints.
