KASUR, April 8: The Phoolnagar Sadar police have registered a case against 20 policemen, including a sub-inspector (SI), on the directives of Pattoki additional sessions judge (ASJ) for ransacking the house of an alleged drug pusher’s relative and misbehaving with the family during a raid to arrest the peddler.

According to the FIR, a police party headed by SI Muhammad Anwar raided the house of a relative of Union Council-79 nazim Abdus Sattar Batto of Jambar Kalan while the family was mourning the death of nazim’s cousin upon receiving information that a peddler, Qosar Jan Muhammad, who was wanted in several drug cases, had arrived there to attend the funeral.

The police allegedly entered the house and thrashed family members, including women, and took away thousands of rupees in cash, four cell phones while resorting to aerial firing.

Later, the aggrieved family approached the police for an action against the delinquent policemen. However, on their failure to get any remedy, they moved the court of ASJ Khalid Bashir at Pattoki. The judge ordered the police to register the case against 20 policemen on Tuesday, which the police did.

However, according to sources, the raiding team had arrested Qosar Jan but his relatives resisted and started scuffling with the police. The police later arrested some of the scuffling relatives of the drug pusher. However, all the relatives of the drug trafficker were later released on the intervention of former district nazim, Rana Muhammad Hayat, while Qosar Jan was sent to jail.

Naseem Bibi died on the spot while three people, including the rickshaw driver, were injured and taken to Jinnah Hospital in Lahore.—Correspondent
