Three Shot dead

LAHORE, April 10: Three people were shot dead in different parts of the city here on Thursday.

A 40-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by two brothers of his former wife in the Baghbanpura area.

The Baghbanpura SHO said Shakeel alias Heera had kidnapped stage actress Sonia Chaudhry some one-and-a-half years back and a case was registered by the Burki police station. After reconciliation, he said, both of them had contracted marriage and started living in Atta Road residence of Shakeel.

The couple’s relations strained soon after their marriage and they started wrangling about over some domestic issue. Shakeel, a gambler by profession, divorced Sonia some two months back as a result. Sonia was shifted to a locality near Lal Bridge in Mughalpura after divorce.

Brothers of Sonia, Irfan alias Fana and Imran alias Mana, who earlier used to consume liquor with Shakeel, exchanged harsh words with him many a time after the divorce. Area people and relatives managed reconciliation between Shakeel and his former brothers-in-law.

On Thursday, Shakeel was present outside his house when the accused brothers came there and shot him dead on the spot.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old canteen contractor was gunned down allegedly by his opponents near Karbala Gamay Shah on Lower Mall.

Victim’s brother Shahid Hameed Pal told the New Anarkali police that his brother Muhammad Jehangir of Chowk Rang Mahal locality was going to his canteen at District Courts when his rivals intercepted him and opened a volley of bullets on him, leaving him dead on the spot.

Shahid further told police that their relatives Abdul Rehman, Adil and their three unidentified accomplices had killed his brother over some family dispute.The deceased had been running the canteen for the last few years and had three daughters.

In another incident, a tyre shop owner was reportedly shot dead by his rival at Tyre Market in Naulakha area.

Police said that victim Nadeem alias Deema of Qila Gujjar Singh locality was engaged in litigation with Iqbal.

On Thursday, Iqbal along with his two accomplices came to Nadeem’s shop and fired at him and managed to escape from the scene. He was rushed to the Mayo Hospital where he died.— Staff Reporter
