Bid to smuggle heroin foiled

RAWALPINDI, April 17: Customs cargo on Thursday foiled an attempt of smuggling of 14.5kg of heroin to Australia through exports goods and started investigation into the smuggling attempt, the authorities said.

Following information that an attempt of smuggling of heroin would be made through an export consignment, the collector customs Rawalpindi Sarwat Tahira Jabeen constituted a raiding party led by additional collector Muhammad Saleem to check the consignments being exported.

During search, the customs staff recovered 14.5 kg of heroin concealed in the leather shoes, the authorities said.

Meanwhile, Adiala jail authorities foiled an attempt of sending cash, mobile phone, batteries and charger inside the jail through food items and arrested a man on Wednesday, police said.—Staff Reporter
