LAHORE, April 27: City Raiwind investigation police have yet to arrest a PML-N MNA and his dozens of men for allegedly thrashing a Punjab food department official who stopped his wheat-laden tractor trolley.
MNA Mazhar Hayat Khan of Kasur and his around 50 men attacked assistant food controller (AFC) Humayun Akhtar Gill and gave him a sound thrashing when the latter seized his wheat being allegedly smuggled to some other place late on Saturday.
“Although the police have conducted raids at different places in Kasur but so far there is no arrest,” an official requesting anonymity said.
He dispelled the impression that the police were avoiding arresting Mr Mazhar owing to political influence and said they had doubts about the presence of the MNA on the spot as it seemed impossible that an elected representative himself attacked the official.
“His men might have thrashed the complainant,” he said.
According to the First Information Report, AFC Humayun stated that he along with other officials was on way to Bhubtian procurement centre. On Raiwind Road, he stopped a tractor trolley laden with wheat sacks, but the driver could not show some written sale/purchase slip.
The driver, in the meantime, informed MNA Mazhar Hayat on cell phone about the situation and later asked the official to listen to the call.
Humayun said Mr Hayat asked him to leave the vehicle and started hurling threats.
Humayun said the MNA asked the driver to take the vehicle to Raiwind but he did not allow the driver and took him to the Raiwind wheat purchase centre.
When the driver again informed his boss on cell phone that he was present at the centre, the MNA reached there along with his 50 men armed with guns and clubs, and started punching and kicking Humayun.
Later, he managed to take away his vehicle with wheat.
A case was registered against the MNA and his men under sections 353, 506, 147, 149, 186 of the PPC and 29 Telegraph Act and 3/6 Food Control Act 1958.
