Extortionists Shoot trader

SIALKOT, May 1: One of the three fleeing killers who was caught by the people revealed to the police that they had shot dead a trader for refusing to pay the protection money in Koocha Sheikhan-Naikapura here on Thursday.

The arrested accused, Adnan, who disclosed the names of his two other accomplices as Irfan and Salman, told the Naikapura police that they had gunned down Asif Sheikh for constantly refusing to pay Rs0.5 million protection money.

A case has been registered against the accused.

ARRESTED: Sialkot police claimed to have arrested five robbers after an encounter here on Thursday.

DPO Capt Muhammad Ameen (retired) said the arrested accused were identified as Shehbaz, Shahid Ali, Liaquat alias Liaqu Chirra, Zeeshan Khan and Sagheer alias Shamas.

The DPO said the accused were wanted by the Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Gujranwala and Hafizabad police in more than 60 cases of dacoity, robbery, murder, kidnapping for ransom and other heinous crime.

He said the police also recovered looted valuables and illicit arms worth millions of rupees from them.

PTCL’s inefficiency: The Bhaagowal telephone exchange has yet to reconnect hundreds of lines, which were disconnected during the construction of various roads about a year ago.

Affected people said they were regularly receiving bills from the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) with line rent and other charges although their phones were disconnected.

They said the PTCL got issued arrest warrants for those who refused to pay bills of their disconnected landlines. They said PTCL’s recovery magistrates were harassing them, and urged the PTCL chairman to look into the matter.

GUTTED: The standing wheat crop on more than 100 acres of land was gutted on Thursday due to some unknown reasons in Dhadu Basra village, Daska.

Reports said that the fire tenders from Daska and Sialkot extinguished the fire.
