KARACHI, May 13: A five-year-old boy was electrocuted in Lyari on Tuesday morning. Israr, son of Irshad, received a strong electric shock as he touched a naked electric wire in the Miran Naka area. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi in a critical condition. However, he could not survive the shock.
Officials at relevant police stations of Chakiwara and Shershah were unaware of the incident.
‘Car thieves’ held
A police team of the Anti-Car Lifting Unit arrested four suspected car-lifters, including an Afghan national, besides busting three bandits involved in highway robberies in Karachi, claimed ACLU chief SSP Khurrum Waris on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the ACLU team raided a hideout in Taimuria police jurisdiction and arrested two suspected car-lifters, Saeed Ali Shah, son of Muhammad Shah, and Yaqoob, son of Khalil Ahmed. A stolen car (H-9195) was recovered from their custody. The outlaws hailed from Punjab, he added.
In another raid, an ACLU team apprehended two car thieves from Soldier Bazaar police jurisdiction. A Suzuki car (S-4576), stolen from the same area, was also recovered from their custody.
SSP Waris said that the criminals were identified as Iqbal Afghani, son of Kamal Khan, hailing from Afghanistan, and Gul Hassan, son of Jail Ahmed, hailing from the NWFP. They used to sell the stolen cars in Punjab and the NWFP, he added.
Highway robbers
An ACLU team nabbed three dacoits, including the ring-leader, involved in highway robberies. They were identified as Muhammad Ramzan, Fayyaz and Muhammad Tariq, while their two accomplices Tariq and Shahid fled from Gulshan-i-Jamal during the raid.
A Kalashnikov rifle, a repeater gun, three TT pistols, four magazines, 35 cartridges and a Suzuki car (AAZ-150), stolen from the Baloch Colony police jurisdiction, were recovered from their custody.
Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested four bandits involved in robberies in posh areas of Defence and Clifton. Illicit arms were recovered from the custody of arrested outlaws, who were identified as Sharif Gehlo, Nizam Gehlo, Sikandar Gehlo and Muhammad Keerio.
During a preliminary interrogation, police said, they confessed to have committed various burglaries and dacoities in the Defence and Clifton areas.
Stolen bikes recovered
Garden police arrested two suspected motorcycle lifters and recovered stolen bikes from their custody.
SHO Sohrab Mayo along with a police party held accused Muhammad Ali alias Kana and Shehbaz alias Babu during snap-checking near a fuel station on Nishtar Road. Two lifted motorcycles and a TT pistol were seized from their possession.
Two drug-peddlers, Qasim alias Mistri and Muhammad Ali, were also arrested, police said, adding that a TT pistol and some looted money were recovered from their possession.
Fake currency
Mehmoodabad police arrested three suspects and recovered a small amount of counterfeit currency from their possession.
A duty official said police acting on a tip-off raided a tea shop in Azam Town and arrested three suspects, identified as Mehfoozur Rehman, Azizur Rehman and Nisar Ahmed, and recovered 23 fake currency notes of different denomination.
Police have registered a case (FIR No 13/2008) under Section 489-C of the Pakistan Penal Code against the suspects.—Agencies
