GUJRANWALA, May 15: Two abductors were killed in an encounter with police on Thursday when they were heading towards Qila Dedar Singh after kidnapping a property dealer for ransom.
Regional Police Officer Zulfikar Ali Cheema told reporters that three outlaws were taking away Sajid Ali of the People’s Colony to Qila Dedar Singh by a car for getting ransom. Acting on a tip-off, he said, a police team chased the outlaws and got close to them near Dhidowali village.
He said law enforcers ordered the outlaws to surrender, but they opened fire on them after taking a cover in wheat fields. At this, the police also returned the fire and killed two of the outlaws while their third accomplice managed to escape. One of the killed outlaws was identified as Wakeel of Sadhoki.
The RPO said the police recovered alive the property dealer. The stolen car and a large quantity of illegal arms were also seized from the encounter site.
The RPO also announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the raiding party.
LOOTED: A jeweller of Sargodha and a couple of Sheikhupura Road were deprived of ornaments worth Rs4 million by robbers and injured former on resistance on GT Road here on Thursday.
Reports said Shaukat Mir was going to deliver gold ornaments to a shopkeeper in Sarrafa Bazaar by a rickshaw. Near Government Iqbal High School, four robbers, riding a car, intercepted the three-wheeler and tried to snatch from him a bag containing jewellery worth Rs3.5 million. For offering resistance, robbers injured him with butts of rifles and escaped with the booty.
Three armed motorcyclists deprived Mehr Sheraz and his wife of jewellery worth Rs0.5 million on Sheikhupura Road when they were going to their home on a bike.
Police are looking into the matter.
ARRESTED: Three butchers were arrested while another was fined for overcharging in Aroop and Muafiwala towns on Thursday.
Reports said special magistrate Dr Ghulam Muhammad arrested butchers Ilyas, Shehzad and Ashraf for selling meat at higher rates. He also fined Rs15,000 to butcher Arshad for overcharging.
STRIKE: The All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) observed a complete strike to press for the acceptance of their demands here on Thursday.
APCA divisional president Tahir Mahmood Bhatti and other office-bearers visited various offices and expressed their satisfaction over the successful strike.
