PESHAWAR, May 20: Two rockets landed in the houses of two high-ranking officers of defence forces in Peshawar Cantonment here in the small hours of Tuesday. No loss of life was reported.

According to police first rocket landed at about 2am in the house of Air Commodore Nadeem Javaid and the second rocket landed in the house of Colonel Ateeq Azmat.

A police official requesting anonymity told Dawn that both the rockets hit trees and exploded in the air. But the splinters hit walls, lawns and portions of the houses, he added.

He said that no loss of life was reported but the explosions created panic among the residents of the area. People seemed very scared after hearing the explosion and large number of residents of the area came out of their houses, he said.

He said that the location from where the rockets were fired could not be ascertained so far. Probably the rockets were fired from Khyber Agency, a police official opined.

The security guards at some residences in the nearby areas told this reporter that the rockets horrified the people as they did not expect happening of such incidents in the well-guarded area.

Efforts were made to talk to the officers, but they were not available for comments. The officials of Gulberg police station said a case against unidentified terrorists was registered.

Some sources said that a third rocket landed near Scheme Chowk in the limits of Badbher police station the same night but the concerned police said that they did have any information about it.
