QUETTA, June 18: Harnai Tehsil Nazim Malik Gul Shah Tareen and another man were shot dead on Wednesday.

The nazim was going to Harnai after attending a jirga when the assailants opened fire on his vehicle in Anjir area. Mr Tareen and his friend Dilawar Shah were killed, while another man in the vehicle remained unhurt.

The assailants snatched the official vehicle of the Harnai district naib nazim at gunpoint and escaped in it. The naib nazim was also returning after attending the jirga. Police sources said the attack was linked with an enmity.

In another incident, Rahim Bakhsh and Karim Bakhsh were killed and eight other people were injured in an exchange of fire between two groups in Hazargangi vegetable and fruit market of the provincial capital.

Police sources said the clash took place after a group of armed men demanded money from shopkeepers in the market. The sources said police were also fired at when they reached the spot.

Local people, led by Mir Wadood Raisani, took out a procession with the bodies and gathered in front of the Quetta Press Club, demanding immediate arrest of the killers.
