Poacher held in Cholistan

BAHAWALPUR, June 25: The wildlife department claimed on Wednesday to have arrested an illegal hunter from Cholistan desert range.

Bahawalpur Wildlife Deputy Director Mian Muhammed Naseem told Dawn that officials of the department raided a place near Dakwala Toba, some 20 kilometres away from Fort Abbas, and arrested Fayyaz Mahar with three slaughtered deer and 25 partridges while his two accomplices fled.

Fayyaz’s motorcycle was confiscated and he was sent to jail on the directives of a magistrate.

Naseem said Fayyaz had already been challaned in at least 10 cases in the past few years for illegal hunting in the desert. The officials were conducting raids to arrest his accomplices.

ARRESTED: The Hasilpur police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested two suspects wanted in the murder of six people in Mecleod Ganj police precincts in Bahawalnagar district.

Hasilpur DSP Sardar Abdul Qayyum Qaisrani said the police were informed that both the suspects, Khizar Hayat and Shafiq, were present near railway crossing in Hasilpur.

On which a team was formed to raid the area and arrest them. The raiding team arrested both of them and seized two AK-47 rifles with 500 rounds and cellular phones from them and started investigation.
