KARACHI, Aug 6: A 35-year-old man was strangled – allegedly by one of his former wives – at his house in Azizabad on Wednesday.
The police said victim Imran Ahmed was living with his third wife, Faiza, at house No 677 in Block -2. They said the victim had married Faiza only one and half months ago.
Area SHO, Inspector Asim Rehman, said that Faiza reported to the police that her husband and she were at their house when at around 4pm the victim’s first ex-wife, Amna, came there along with two men.
He said that the woman stated that her husband pushed her out of the room telling her that he wanted to negotiate a matter with his ex-wife.
“The woman told the police that she left for the nearby house of her mother as asked by her husband,” he said and added that the woman found her husband strangled when she returned home after two hours.
The SHO said the case was yet to be registered as the victim’s wife and family were busy in funeral.
The SHO said the victim had also divorced his second wife.
He said that it was not immediately known what the victim did for his living.
People kill bandit
A suspected bandit, who was fleeing along with his alleged accomplice after a bungled robbery, was shot dead by people in Federal B. Area, police and witnesses said.
They said that two dacoits held a woman hostage at gunpoint and attempted to deprive her of her bangles near Nighat Naseem Clinic in the Block 9 at around 11.45am.
The witnesses said that the bandits started running away when people were attracted to the scene.
They said people also ran after the fleeing dacoits and someone shot and hit one of them.
The witnesses said that the police also reached the spot shortly after the shooting and shifted the fatally wounded suspect to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Hospital sources said the man had received two bullets in his lower torso and died due to profuse bleeding.
They said the accomplice of the suspect fled the scene.
However, the police claimed that the dacoit was killed in a shootout with the police.
An assistant sub-inspector of the Jauharabad police said that a police party, patrolling the area, had reached the spot when the dacoits were fleeing.
He said the fleeing dacoits opened fire when they saw the police party approaching them. He said the police also returned fire and hit one of the fleeing suspects.
The police said the 22-year-old suspect, who had identified himself as Mohammed Asif, son of Mohammed Akhtar, was the resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
Jauharabad police registered a case (FIR 130/2008) against the absconding suspect under Section 394 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on behalf of the state.
Body found
The trussed-up body of a young man, stuffed into a gunny bag, was found near Crown Cinema in Maripur.
Kalri police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital where the victim remained unidentified.
Hospital sources said the victim, who was in his mid 20s, had been tortured to death. They said the face of the victim was disfigured as acid was also thrown on him.
The police said the victim was clad in dark brown qamees and white shalwar.
His body was kept at the Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth for want of identification.
Fallen to death
A 40-year-old construction worker, father of four, was killed when he fell off the rooftop of an under construction building near Civic Center, Hasan Square.
The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed hospital where the deceased was identified as Mohammed Salim, son of Mohammed Yousuf, resident of Korangi.
