LAYYAH, Aug 17: A robber shot a police constable dead in a shootout near Chak 134- TDA in Layyah Sadar police precincts on Saturday night.

A police party headed by Sub-inspector Ameer Nawaz was on routine patrol when they saw a stolen high-speed peter engine lying on a kacha road near Chak 134-TDA.

They also saw three men near the engine and nabbed two of them who were later identified as Muhammad Arif and Saeed Ahmed. However, their third accomplice, later identified as Muhammad Hussain, alias Mithu, fled. Constable Israr Ahmed Klasra pursued the fleeing robber who later shot at the constable.

The constable received a bullet in his chest and succumbed to his wounds at a local hospital. The police registered a case and started conducting raids to arrest the fled robber.

ADDRESS: The PPP was handed over the government when the country was in grip of multiple crises of price-hike, lawlessness, poverty, loadshedding and flour shortage due to eight-year stint of General Pervez Musharraf (retired), former district nazim Shahabuddin said this while addressing PPP workers at his residence here on Sunday.

Shahabuddin, who was elected district nazim from PML-Q platform and has recently joined the PPP, said that he was a PPP worker by birth and his family affiliation with the party could be gauged from this fact that his father was buried wrapped in party flag.

He said it was his desire to be buried wrapped in PPP flag after his death.

PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari had given a task to his cousin and MNA Bahadur Khan to achieve the support of 24 PML-Q MNAs in favour of impeachment motion against President Musharraf, he added.
