ISLAMABAD Two missiles believed to have been fired by a drone aircraft flattened a home and killed at least 26 people in the Jangry area of Tehsil Lada in South Waziristan on Saturday, DawnNews TV and agencies reported.
'Our people have informed us that at least 25 people were killed. It could be more. Most of them are Uzbek mujahideen,' a senior Taliban official said.
Missiles hit a sprawling house used by the militants as a training camp in the Zangari area in the South Waziristan region.
'Around 50 to 60 mujahideen have been living there for about a week. All of them were Uzbeks,' the Taliban official added.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that at least 20 were killed and said at least 15 people have also been wounded in the attack. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
Taliban fighters surrounded the targeted home and were transporting the bodies and wounded out, said the two officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
No government or military spokesmen were available for comment.
Waziristan is the power base of Baitullah Mehsud, leader of the Pakistani Taliban and an al Qaeda ally, who is also accused of involvement in the assassination of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto in December 2007.
The US has launched more than 30 missile attacks in recent months.
