HARIPUR, June 25 A local court on Thursday awarded two-month jail term and Rs2,000 fine each to five women family members of an Egyptian national for illegal stay in the country.

The women were produced before the court of judicial magistrate cum civil judge Ziaur Rehman who after hearing arguments from the state counsel and counsels of the accused awarded the sentence. The women were represented by Javed Ibrahim Paracha and Sher Bahadur advocates.

Local police during a raid had recovered Abdullah Al-Misry and his family members - wife Amal Alsyed Mohammad, daughters Wallah, Asma, Safia, Zehra and an infant Ans - from village Malikyar on May 21. Police had reportedly recovered some Kalashnikovs, magazines, hand-grenades, CDs and computers from their possession.

Al-Misry was handed over to an intelligence agency for interrogation while his family members were put under surveillance by deploying police guards at the house where they were living.

The detained Egyptian had allegedly secret links with some banned outfits. In a bid to rescue the family members, some unknown attackers wearing police uniform entered the house and sprayed bullets on the police on duty killing three constables Azmat Rasheed, Imran Khan and Niaz while ASI Iqbal Hussain was wounded seriously.

During exchange of fire, one of the attackers was gunned down while his accomplices managed to escape the scene. The deceased attacker was identified as Ejaz of village Malikpura, Abbottabad, who was allegedly having links with the Taliban. The police claimed to have recovered some detonators and arms from his house. After the attack, police arrested the five women from the nearby fields and sent them to Haripur Jail on judicial remand.

It was reported that Al-Misry had also been handed over to the local police last week that had registered a case and sent him to Haripur Jail.
