QUETTA, April 1 Jubilant members and supporters of Awami National Party and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party celebrated the proposed renaming of NWFP as 'Khyber Pakhtunkhwa' here on Thursday.

Provincial leaders and workers of ANP, PkMAP and Pakhtun Students Federation danced on roads and fired in the air in celebration.

ANP members and activists held rallies in Chaman, Loralai and Qila Saifullah.

The ANP and PkMAP brought out separate processions and held public meetings at the Bacha chowk.

Speakers paid tribute to Bacha Khan, Khan Abdul Wali Khan and Khan Abdul Samad Khan Achakzai and others for rendering sacrifices for the identity and rights of Pakhtuns.

They said since British colonial rulers gave the name of NWFP to the region, Pakhtuns had been struggling for their identity.

They said after the creation of Pakistan ANP and PkMAP rendered great sacrifices for the rights and identity of Pakhtuns.

The speakers said the political administrative unit of 'Khyber Pakhtunkhwa' would be incomplete without the merger of Pakhtun areas of Balochistan and Fata into it. They said provinces should be re-demarcated on linguistic, cultural and historical lines in order to unite all Pakhtun areas into one province.
