PESHAWAR, Jan 29 Security personnel arrested a suspected Taliban leader and his nine accomplices from a house during a raid in the wee hours of Wednesday, sources said.

A police source said that personnel of some secret agencies and local police, in a joint operation, raided a house at Ormar Khatako Pul village and arrested Irshad Ali, hailing from Swat, and his nine accomplices.

The source said four double-cabin Datsun trucks and weapons were also seized from the house, which were allegedly used by the militants for patrolling in parts of Peshawar.

The official stated that the militants were recruiting people for the Swat Taliban group and the raid was conducted on a tip-off by some locals to a secret agency. Officials of Ormar police station, however, denied having any such information.

RECORD SEALED Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials took record of Baitul Mal from the General Post Office, Peshawar into custody, the other day.

A source said that there were reports about massive embezzlement in the Baitul Mal funds by the staff of the GPO and various post offices across the Frontier province.

He said record of the past six years was taken into custody and investigation had been initiated.

The source said the cards meant for the deserving poor people were being used by the employees of different post offices, adding that many people had died but their Baitul Mal cards were still being used for drawing money from the national exchequer.—Bureau Report
