MANSEHRA, Sept 29 The law enforcement agencies arrested five Afghan nationals from Khaki refugee camp for having links with militants, sources said.

According to reliable sources the secret agencies in collaboration with local police cordoned off the Afghan refugee camp and apprehended five 'potential militants' who according to them entered the camp in the garb of refugees from Afghanistan.

Sources told Dawn that for the last many months, Khaki refugee camp was under strict vigil of secret agencies as one of the alleged terrorists netted in Battal area of Mansehra had revealed about the presence of militants in camps.

Source said that the detained persons were involved in terrorist activities in NWFP and Punjab. It was learnt that after the winding up of the Jalozai camp, most of the suspected 'terrorists' had been penetrated in the refugee camps in Hazara region.

Following the arrest, district police beefed up security in and around the Ghazikot Township where the offices of NGOs are located.

Sources said that in almost all the refugee camps in Hazara region there was no proper entry and exit record of the inmates. In case of any new comer to the camp the caretaker registered only the name of the head of family or convoy while the rest were not bound to show their identification and documents. In February 2008 the militants attacked the office of UK-based Plan International, an NGO, and killed four of its staffers by firing rocket propelled grenade on the building.
