KARACHI, Feb 16: Dashing Pakistani opener Saeed Anwar and pacer Aqib Javed’s record feats in limited over matches find places in Wisden’s all time one-day batting and bowling lists announced in London Saturday.

Anwar’s world record of 194 against India at Chennai in 1997 is placed fifth in the all-time 100 best one-day innings chosen by Wisden.

According to Wisden’s top ten batting and bowling performances, in 1804 one-dayers held so far starting from 1971 to the just concluded India-England one-day, former West Indian captain Vivian Richards’ 189 not out off 170 balls at Manchester in 1984 and 138 not out off 157 balls at Lord’s in 1979 are at the top of the list followed by Sri Lankan skipper Sanath Jayasuriya’s 189 off 161 balls at Sharjah, occupying the third spot.

Kapil Dev’s 175 not out off 150 balls for India against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup at Tunbridge Wells is in the fourth position while Anwar’s 194 off 146 balls at Chennai, still the highest individual score in one-day international cricket, is in fifth place.

Wisden’s best 100 bowling list is topped by Australian Gary Gilmour who took six for 14 against England in the semifinal of the inaugural World Cup in 1975. Pakistan’s Aqib Javed lies second for his seven for 37 against India at Sharjah in 1991-92, which included a hat-trick of lbws.

Aqib is just ahead of his compatriot Waqar Younis, who shattered England at Headingley in 2001 with seven for 36 — the first seven wickets to fall. Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas’ eight for 19, the best bowling analysis in ODIs, is placed fourth. It included the first one-day hat-trick by a Sri Lankan, and contributed to Zimbabwe being shot out for 38, the lowest total in ODI history.—SADA

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
