LAHORE, May 31: Chestnut horse Alexander, who stormed to victory last weekend, is fancied to make it a two-in-a-row when the fifth day/night Lahore Summer Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday evening.

Without a victory in two starts during the ongoing season, the five to four favourite Alexander registered an easy win last Sunday. He has now been promoted to class IV, division III, to go over the sprinting distance of 1,100 metres, featuring a card of seven events. The chestnut Byron, Big Power and Karam Pe Karam are prominent among his seven opponents, who should fight for places too in the seventh and last race of the day.

Four-year-old bay filly Eve, who won in a closely contested race on May 18, will be on the trot for another success. Gulf Line, Striker and Dillagi are prominent among her rivals in the sixth race of the day, a class V, division II handicap race to go over 1,100 metres.

Magic Stride, Munsaf and Zoaq attract attention in the small field of seven runners in the fifth race, a class V, division I handicap over 1,100 metres event. They should fight in the same order. Magic Stride and Munsaf are in good form.

Four-year-old chestnut colt Chinkara looks fit for racing and tracking. He is a fine pedigree colt and should live up to his breeding potential by winning the fourth race, a class VI, division I-A run over the 900 metres distance. He should have the better of Zubair Prince, Brave Heart and Scooby Do, who should all be fighting for places.

The colt Scooby Do owned by Mian Maahir Ahmed, had been suffering from some chronic physical problem, a constant source of hindrance in his performance during the races. His co-owner Mahmood Khan told Dawn that the colt has now been cured of it but the real test will be in seeing how he finishes the race and returns to the stable.

So far the best performer among the unknown pedigree horses, the speedy filly Pind De Kuri owned by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) will be contesting in the third race, a class VI, division I-B handicap event run over the 900 metres distance. She faces equally fast competitors like Dream Act, Love Minister and Amazing Boy but is still the better speedster of all.

A card of seven events has been drawn for the day/night meeting. First four races will be held over 900 metres while the remaining three will be contested over 1,100 metres.

The first race will start at 5pm.
